Essex Lower

Essex Academy Lower School Program Overview

The Essex Academy Lower School Program is a specialized therapeutic environment that supports students’ emotional, social, and behavioral growth. Grounded in the principles of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), solution-focused therapy, positive behavioral interventions, restorative practices, and trauma-informed care, the program provides a comprehensive approach to fostering resilience and skill development in students.

The curriculum integrates explicit instruction in social and coping skills through both whole-group and small-group lessons, allowing students to apply these strategies in real-time interactions with staff and peers throughout the school day. The program’s clinician and Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) are available to provide ongoing, individualized support, ensuring that students receive counseling and behavioral interventions as needed.

In addition to structured lessons, students benefit from continuous access to therapeutic support, helping them develop the coping mechanisms and social skills necessary to navigate challenges. The program is approved by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), ensuring a high standard of care and educational rigor.
